Shortcuts to Sanity
The Secret to Dog Training by Dr. Sophia Yin.
Your dog is like an exchange student.
Your dog is essentially an exchange student who comes from a culture where its okay to eat his own poop and wear it as perfume. He needs to be taught what is socially appropriate and inappropriate in our society in order to be successful. As his caregiver, it is up to you to recognize him as an individual of another species who deserves just as much respect as you might want from him. It is unfair and can be dangerous to punish him for doing things that only come naturally (barking, chewing, jumping), when you haven't taken the time to properly teach him more acceptable behaviors or taken steps to prevent the behaviors from being practiced.

I learned alot through Tess because of her passion for animals and her understanding of them. I think Tess always wants to learn more so she can have the latest information when she is working with her clients. She perseveres and is always positive. She doesn't need to change a thing. Tess, you certainly are the best!

I found a recommendation for Tess as I was researching some puppy problems we were having with the 2 pups we rescued. Tess came to our home, worked around our schedule & was very flexible. She is knowledgeable about a variety of behavior issues and was able to teach us how to be better pet parents. She was available by text or email for any issues that popped up & has sent articles relating to specific problems we were having. We highly recommend her for any dog issues.

The outcome was exactly as hoped for. The fun Jeb and I had training with you was a huge bonus. Your technique, expertise, positive energy and kindness equal a winning combo. You’re the best. Thanks, Tess!

Tess is phenomenal with our 4 dogs! The training tips she gave us helped build our puppy's confidence while we learned basic commands. The others also got to learn tricks.

I am so thankful for your help. Butter has come so far with your training. It is a miracle! You and I have put so much work into her and it is paying off. I am so proud of her. She's very focused on me and I used to associate a trained dog as a "whipped" dog who was too submissive. Not the case at all! You are grrrrreat!

You are such a sweet person, and I'm so thankful we met you and I'm so grateful for all of the knowledge you've shared with us, it has been so helpful.

Just want you to know how happy I am that we partnered up and what a great job you are doing! It was meant to be. I know I don't say it enough! But I really appreciate you.

I swear you are the Fort Worth Dog Whisperer. He seems to have such a better attitude!
- Laddie's dog sitter, Marielle, 2012
We appreciate you so much. He has been so much more relaxed when I gather our things and leave my boyfriend’s house some evenings. He just sits and waits instead of whining like crazy...I really noticed a difference last night.

Thank you, Tess, for your help. Khleo's behavior really has changed for the better. She doesn't growl at other dogs and seems happier. She is a better dog.
